If there was any lingering doubt about where the nation’s top quarterback would sign, Jared Curtis erased it Wednesday morning. The Five-Star Plus+ passer officially signed with Vanderbilt in a private ceremony at Nashville Christian School, becoming the highest-ranked recruit in program history.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementCurtis, who flipped from Georgia to Vanderbilt on Tuesday night, becomes the heir apparent to Diego Pavia in Clark Lea’s rapidly rising program. The Nashville native had been committed to the Bulldogs since May, choosing them over a national slate of offers. But Vanderbilt’s 10-win breakthrough season coupled with persistent recruiting from Lea’s staff ultimately shifted the momentum.
The Commodores hosted Curtis earlier this fall and again for their Oct. 25 game against Missouri. Pavia even attended one of his games during Vanderbilt’s open weeks and made a public push on ESPN's College GameDay urging the quarterback to stay home. The effort paid off. Tremendously.
Curtis, who is ranked No. 3 overall, according to 247Sports, now headlines a class that marks Vanderbilt’s most ambitious recruiting haul.
The 6-foot-3 junior threw for 2,830 yards, 40 touchdowns and just three interceptions last season, adding 18 rushing scores. Time couldn't be better with Pavia expected to depart after this season as a Heisman Trophy favorite.
