USA TODAY Sports Super 25 football rankings: A new No. 1 team emerges

The No. 1 team in the country, Grayson (Loganville, Ga.), had a chance to add a vital win against the No. 11 team, solidifying its top ranking while advancing in the playoffs. Instead, the Rams fell 34-14 to Carrollton (Ga.), ending their season and national title hopes.

At No. 2, Centennial (Corona, Calif.) had a chance to avenge its sole loss on the season to Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), win another top-10 match-up, and climb its way to the No. 1 spot. Instead, the Eagles of Santa Margarita won 42-7, its best win of the season—in a season full of impressive wins— and moved up accordingly.

With those upset victories, there is complete upheaval in the top 10 of the Super 25 national rankings. Both Grayson and Centennial slipped down. Santa Margarita jumped up, as did Bishop Gorman, which won the championship this week and shut out Santa Margarita earlier in the season. Southlake Carroll (Texas) continued to roll with its best win of the season. And as the holiday weekend came to a close, one more upset rattled the rankings, with then-No. 24 Cass Tech (Detroit, Mich.) falling to Catholic Central (Novi, Mich.) 42-19.

Once the gridiron dust settled, a new No. 1 team landed at the top of the rankings—a sixth occurrence this season—while two new teams enter at No. 24 abd No. 25.
