An American passenger on a cruise ship who failed to return to the boat was found alive, officials announced on Friday, over a week after her disappearance.

Ann Evans, 55, departed the Holland America Line ship on November 20 for an island tour, according to a missing person alert from the Police Force of Sint Maarten. Police said she got off a bus in French Saint Martin and did not return to the bus or the cruise ship.

The Police Force of Sint Maarten said on Friday that Evans had been located and “contact has been made with the individual in question.”

Newsweek reached out to Holland America Line for comment.

During the investigation, authorities discovered that a woman matching Evans’ description had checked into a hotel on the French side of the island using her passport, Saint Martin News Network reported. She was reportedly seen in the area surrounding the hotel, according to the outlet.

A Holland America Line spokesperson told People magazine in a statement on Friday that Evans has been located.

The Police Force of Sint Maarten said, “In accordance with the laws governing privacy and the protection of personal data, no additional information will be released about the individual or their circumstances.”

No additional details regarding Evans’s disappearance were released, citing privacy laws and the protection of personal data.

A Holland America Line spokesperson told People in a November 28 statement: “We appreciate the efforts of local authorities in Sint Maarten and we’re glad to see the situation has been resolved.”

The Police Force of Sint Maarten posted on Facebook: “The Police Force thanks the community and its partners for their cooperation during this investigation.”
