Buffalo Bills injuries: 3 up, 3 down on 1st injury report of Week 14

The Buffalo Bills returned to the practice field on Wednesday to prepare for the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 14.

The Buffalo Bills opened Week 14’s practices with another injury list full of mixed news. While three players are improving, three are headed in the opposite direction. And then, of course, they have the whole list of “getting treatment, but they’re fine” names as well.

On top of the thumbs-up list is left tackle Dion Dawkins who was listed as a limited participant in Wednesday’s practice. Sure, it was a walkthrough, but he wasn’t far enough along in the NFL’s concussion protocol to even do that much last week. Technically, the nine-year veteran could be a full participant on Thursday if he’s still symptom free. Dawkins could also stay limited all week, go through a simulated practice on Saturday, and be cleared to play. No matter how it goes, Dawkins participating on Wednesday is a very good sign.

Right tackle Spencer Brown’s shoulder injury had him inactive all of last week. Like Dawkins, he’s now progressed to limited work. It’s a good sign that he won’t miss too much time, but I would be a little more cautious on assuming he will play Sunday. It would be nice to think that some light work this week coupled with a harness at game time would have him good to go — but if he’s not 100%, having Alec Anderson for a second week in there is a more-than-adequate option.

Other good news for Buffalo is that tight end Dalton Kincaid was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday. The tight end has missed the past three weeks after suffering a hamstring injury in the Bills’ loss to the Miami Dolphins in Week 10. However, the positivity surrounding Kincaid’s practice participation should be hampered a little by the fact that Buffalo are now listing him with two injuries. He’s now being treated for a knee injury as well as the hamstring issues.

Not practicing for the Bills were Joey Bosa, Joshua Palmer, and Terrel Bernard. Bernard continues to deal with the elbow injury he suffered in Week 12. It would be great to see him back, but veteran linebacker Shaq Thompson is doing just fine in the MIKE position, so Buffalo taking their time with the fourth-year linebacker is warranted.

Both Bosa and Palmer have had injuries, but now each have additional ones. Palmer suffered his knee and ankle injury in Week 6 when the Bills played in Atlanta. After missing three games, Palmer was back on the field for Week 11. However, after two games, he was back out with an ankle injury again this Sunday. Now, once again, he’s listed as dealing with both the knee and ankle injury. Don’t be surprised if you see the Bills shut him down with a trip to Injured Reserve soon. Reading the tea leaves from head coach Sean McDermott don’t sound as promising as one might hope:

Bosa has had a wrist injury, and he’s played with a club-style cast/wrap for weeks. But on Sunday, while pursuing Steelers’ quarterback Aaron Rodgers, Bosa suffered a hamstring injury. When asked before practice on Wednesday, McDermott said that he would consider Bosa as week-to-week. McDermott went on to clarify that there’s “two ways” of viewing that: either 1-2 weeks, or 3-4 weeks. McDermott said he’s hoping for the former. In Bills coach speak: Don’t expect to see Bosa chasing quarterbacks Joe Burrow this weekend or Drake Maye in Week 15.
