It was a very light week for Purdue basketball last week. While most of the top teams in the country were playing in showcase events, Purdue played just once in a Friday afternoon blowout of lowly Eastern Illinois. That is the beauty of having your showcase event so early.

That meant Purdue stays No. 1 in the nation this week, but Michigan is making its case after a strong showing in Las Vegas. The Wolverines beat San Diego State, Auburn, and Gonzaga In the Players Era Championship for three solid resume wins.

This week is different, as Purdue begins Big Ten play at Rutgers (where nothing bad has ever happened when Purdue has played the Scarlet Knights while ranked No. 1) and host a ranked Iowa State team in Mackey.
