ESPN released its FPI rankings for the final time this regular season, and to no one’s surprise, the Michigan Wolverines fell one spot to No. 19 following the drubbing they took to Ohio State on Saturday.

While many of us did not expect Michigan to make the College Football Playoff, never mind do damage in it, it was a disappointing end to the campaign on Saturday in The Game.

Michigan’s hopes of playing in anything more than a menial bowl game are over, as are its Big Ten Championship odds. A 9-3 is nothing to scoff at, particularly with a true freshman quarterback and so much departed talent on defense. But that sour taste from Saturday will linger throughout the offseason and until the Wolverines can regain the advantage in the rivalry.

Meanwhile, three of the top four teams in the nation reside in the Big Ten, as Ohio State (No. 1), Indiana (No. 2) and Oregon (No. 4) have a shot to make some noise in the CFP this season.

The Wolverines will await their bowl destination and will know on Sunday afternoon where they will be headed this winter.
