Warning: This article contains discussion of sexual violence.
Amid the two-time Oscar winner's efforts to mount a comeback, Kevin Spacey is now facing more sexual assault charges. The former House of Cards star infamously saw his career come to a halt in late 2017 when Star Trek: Discovery's Anthony Rapp came out with accusations of sexual assault and battery against Spacey. Not only was he subsequently fired from the Netflix series and Ridley Scott's All The Money in the World, but also had 15 others come forward with accusations against him.
In the subsequent eight years, Spacey has repeatedly denied all the allegations, but has also faced a variety of court cases around the world. Thus far, none of the charges brought against the Baby Driver actor have resulted in an arrest or jail time, with the Oscar winner being found not guilty due to different factors, including the death of an accuser, statute of limitations and refusal to testify. The most recent victory in Spacey's legal defenses came in 2023, when three of 12 charges brought against him by a British court were dropped, while he was found not guilty of the other nine.
Now, in a new report from BBC News, Spacey is going to face more civil claims charges from three men in London. The accusers allege that the Oscar winner assaulted them between 2000 and 2013, with a trial tentatively set for October 12, 2026, albeit currently undecided on whether it will be a single trial, or three consecutive ones. Sources report that Spacey has denied two of the claims, but at the time of writing, has not filed a defense against the third.
Two of the men were previously a part of the criminal trial brought against Spacey in 2022 and 2023, with one only known as LNP alleging the star "deliberately assaulted" him 12 times between 2000 and 2005, while the other known only as GHI met Spacey during his tenure as artistic director of London's Old Vic theatre and was assaulted in 2008, resulting in "psychiatric damage and financial loss." The latter had previously filed a lawsuit against Spacey, though proceedings were paused when criminal charges were filed against the actor.
The third man, who has since waived his right to anonymity, is that of Ruari Cannon, an actor who also met Spacey during his Old Vic tenure and alleges he was groped at a party after a production of Sweet Bird of Youth in 2013. Cannon went on to appear in Channel 4's divisive Spacey Unmasked, which spoke with 10 of the actor's sexual misconduct allegation victims.
The news of Spacey facing three more sexual assault charges not only comes just over two years after his acquittals in the criminal cases, but also as the star has made numerous attempts to mount a comeback. This has ranged from performing in the Cyprus-hosted cabaret show, Songs & Stories, to starring in the sci-fi thriller The Tenth Planet – The Red Sister, which recently wrapped production.
More notably, however, is the fact that this report comes on the heels of Spacey revealing he doesn't have a situated home, living in hotels and Airbnbs as he continues to look for more work and still reeling from the legal costs of his various court appearances. He also indicated that he and his team were currently in talks with Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino in the hopes of helping his comeback further cement itself.
While those behind his various recent works aren't likely to be too impacted by this new update, Kevin Spacey facing more sexual assault charges are likely to put a hamper on his efforts for a bigger comeback. Considering much of Hollywood and the world have already written him off, it was already going to be a tough sell, but should these charges actually result in a guilty verdict for the Oscar winner, it may prove to be the final nail in his coffin.
