Former Raiders OL sounds off on lack of progression, position coach

The Las Vegas Raiders' offensive line has been a disaster this season. Perhaps that's putting it lightly. The unit has endured several embarrassing performances in recent weeks. Starting quarterback Geno Smith was sacked on a historic 10 occasions in Sunday's Week 12 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

Rookie running back Ashton Jeanty has had no running room to operate. Pro Football Focus has the Raiders ranked 30th in rushing grade (66.6) and 25th in run blocking (52.5). ESPN Stats & Info largely agrees, placing the Raiders' run-blocking-win-rate (RBWR) at 24th (70%).

A lack of improvement on the offensive line has been a consistent issue. Former Raiders blocker Richie Incognito recently took to social media to blast offensive line coach Brennan Carroll. Incognito noted the lack of progression, poor fundamentals and technique, and the refusal to play third-round rookies Caleb Rogers and Charles Grant.

Carroll is the run-game coordinator and offensive line coach. He's the son of head coach Pete Carroll. The Raiders' lack of success across the offensive line and running game certainly creates room to question if nepotism is involved.

Coach Carroll has already fired three coaches throughout this disastrous season, including offensive coordinator Chip Kelly. Yet his son, who coaches the most underperforming unit on the team, remains employed. Incognito had some questionable moments throughout his career, but his criticism is spot on.
