PHILADELPHIA -- The Philadelphia 76ers took a shellacking by the Orlando Magic on Tuesday night as they fell 144-103. The Sixers were out scored 51-25 in the second quarter and trailed by as many as 46 in a miserable night at the Xfinity Mobile Arena as the Sixers dropped to 9-8 on the season and 0-3 in the NBA Cup.

The big difference was the second quarter. The Sixer turned the ball over eight times leading to 17 Magic points, Orlando shot 5-for-8 from deep and 74.1% from the floor overall, and scored 30 points in the paint. The Magic just gave the Sixers the business the entire second quarter and it led to an easy win for them.

"They spanked us," said Tyrese Maxey after the loss. "That's all there is to it."

Maxey had 20 points, but it was a hard-earned 20 as the Magic bothered him throughout the night. Coach Nick Nurse added more for why Orlando had such a big advantage.

"Well, the second quarter kind of obviously was just an indication of a lot of things that were happening from then on," Nurse stated. "Listen, we weren't moving well enough. We weren't getting back well enough. We weren't keeping them in front well enough. Just a bunch of layups, turned it over, I mean, we're putting ourselves in a terrible bind to be able to get back and get any kind of defense set up."

The Magic had 15 fast break points in the second quarter as they were able to capitalize on Philadelphia's turnovers and turn it into easy points. Just in all phases of the game, the Magic were tougher than the Sixers after the first 11 minutes of the game when Philadelphia built a 7-point lead.

"When we did, like we did the first 11 minutes of the game, we had them kind of taking the shots we wanted, and went through a little bit of dry spell defensive rebounding that kind of kept them around as much as we made a miss in the first quarter," Nurse added. "We just had zero transition defense, and it was mostly the turnovers and missed layups, but then it turned into just being able to be aware enough to get back and find matchups and then keep our guys in front of us a little bit."

The Sixers will now have two days off before heading up to Brooklyn to take on the Nets in their final NBA Cup game on Friday.
