Give me a lighthearted recap
A disturbing new horror game set to be released in 2026 is already making Resident Evil seem like a cozy game, despite its status as one of the great survival horror franchises. Though not made for everyone, survival horror is a pretty popular genre among gamers, who seek the thrill of managing limited resources as they survive an onslaught of nightmares. This is the case with the recently released Total Chaos, inspired by Capcom’s franchise and Silent Hill.
Now, a new survival horror game is on the horizon. As seen on its Steam page, Living Hell is a new co-op horror extraction game, in which you and up to three other allies must retrieve certain specimens before time runs out, as solar radiation transforms normal living beings into horrific mutations. Living Hell is set to be released in 2026, though a more specific release window has not yet been provided by developer Joe Fender.
Living Hell Makes Resident Evil Look Like Stardew Valley
The Game Has Great Monster Designs
A giant snail monster charges the player in Living Hell.
From what can be seen in promotional materials so far, Living Hell is already matching and, at times, beating Resident Evil when it comes to intensity of horror. Though the gameplay does seem to resemble the gameplay in R.E.P.O., considering the extraction aspect, Living Hell is extremely dark. The game’s graphics pay homage to older survival horror games, including Resident Evil and Dino Crisis.
However, it stands out with its unique monster designs, which are terrifying. The horrendous monsters range from a gargantuan snail-like figure to a spider-like creature with two humanoid, though mutated heads. You’ll be venturing outside of Pelican City, which is a curious name choice since the town in Stardew Valley is called Pelican Town – even if it’s a coincidence, Living Hell makes Resident Evil feel like Stardew Valley.
2026 Is Already Looking Like A Huge Year
Next Year Is Packed With Releases
Players face a monster in Living Hell.
With an indie horror game such as Living Hell, 2026 is already looking to be a huge year. In fact, it will be the year players will finally see the release of Grand Theft Auto 6, even though there have been some delays to GTA 6. Moreover, next year will also represent the arrival of Forza Horizon 6, which will be set in Japan and feature iconic real-life locations recreated in a digital open-world landscape.
There’s a lot to look out for in 2026, and all of these titles sound amazing, including Living Hell. Even though survival horror games aren’t everyone’s cup of tea, I’m sure it will please fans of the genre and those who are fond of the Resident Evil series.
