Gary Neville has slammed Chelsea’s defending against Leeds as he singled out Malo Gusto and Tosin Adarabioyo for their performances.

Chelsea endured a tough night at Elland Road as they turned in a poor performance and slumped to a 3-1 defeat, which sees them drop to fourth in the league.

It appears the Blues completely underestimated Leeds, and couldn’t deal with the Elland Road atmosphere, which was a hostile one.

Enzo Maresca made five changes to the team with two of those at centre back, with Tosin and Benoit Badiashile both handed starts.

Trevoh Chalobah was also moved to right back, and the Chelsea back line which had conceded once in four league games in November suddenly looked very shaky.

Tosin had a terrible evening which was summed up by his role in the third goal for Leeds, whilst Badiashile also struggled and was replaced at half time.

Neville wasn’t impressed by Chelsea’s defending and singled out Tosin and Gusto after the mix up which led to Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring.

“Gusto had played Tosin into trouble but he was caught on the ball,” Neville told Sky Sports.

“It’s a nightmare for Maresca and a dream for Leeds. They’ve kept pushing, they’ve always been a threat.

“Chelsea have given them encouragement after encouragement after encouragement.

“The centre-backs have been sloppy all night. I’m not sure if Gusto’s pass to Chalobah is the right one, you just have to welly it up the pitch.

“What are you doing trying to control it and play it back in there? And Sanchez, it is difficult for him.

“What a mess. Chelsea’s defenders have been poor on the ball all night, playing it into their own six yard box to each other.”

In positive news Cole Palmer returned

Whilst it was a poor evening for Chelsea, one positive is Cole Palmer returned to action for the first time in over two months.

Palmer came on as a second half substitute and was guilty of missing a brilliant chance to make it 2-2 which could have totally changed the game.

Maresca will be hoping he gets back up to speed quickly as Chelsea need him firing in a busy December period with games coming thick and fast.
