It appears we have to seriously consider Indianapolis Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo as a top candidate for the New York Giants' head-coaching vacancy.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAccording to NFL insider Josina Anderson, she's hearing that Anarumo is "expected to receive strong consideration" for the Giants' job in 2026.
"A league source says Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo is expected to receive strong consideration for the Giants head coach vacancy this upcoming cycle, while also emphasizing his familiarity and relationship with current general manager Joe Schoen," Anderson reported on Tuesday.
"It remains to be seen how much said connection will influence ownership, relative to Schoen's status, once the search is complete," Anderson added.
Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post reports that Anarumo is "the slight favorite" for the job, adding more smoke to the fire that Anarumo might be a top choice for New York.

Anarumo was on the Dolphins' coaching staff from 2012 to 2017, serving as the defensive backs coach and then interim defensive coordinator.
Schoen was in Miami's front office from 2008 through 2016 and served in multiple roles with the Dolphins, including national scout, assistant director of college scouting and director of player personnel.
Anarumo also has a connection to the Giants, as he served as the team's defensive backs coach in 2018.
With Jaxson Dart's development paramount, the Giants will have to weigh whether or not they would prefer an offensive-minded head coach who can help guide the young quarterback in the years to come.

There's still a long way to go between now and the offseason, when the Giants will really begin their coaching search in earnest.
But, for now, it would appear Anarumo is the early leader in the clubhouse.
