Marcel Reed has shined every time his number has been called. While he's considered to be in the running for a Heisman Trophy run, the Texas A&M Aggies passer ranks No. 5 in On3's latest straw poll with 44 points after a relatively modest outing. He went 10-of-15 for 120 yards and three touchdowns in a victory over Samford Bulldogs.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementOne "cupcake" game with the Aggies signal-caller putting in little time. Reed has compiled 2,752 passing yards, 25 touchdown passes, eight interceptions and 395 rushing yards with six scores on the ground.
Being on a Playoff team boosts his profile. Reed has been outstanding, but Heisman worthy? Some would argue for and against it. The SEC bias comes into play as the Aggies are the conference's last unbeaten, and one of three in the nation with Ohio State and Indiana set to "duke it out" in the projected Big Ten title game. With all that said, Texas A&M could be a No. 1 seed by default.
The question is whether Reed's performances stack up against the high-end statistical output of Heisman frontrunners? At this point, it's unclear if voters will see his value as an individual.
