Elite, 4-star QB signs with Michigan State

Michigan State football has officially signed its future signal caller.

Arguably the most important prospect in the Spartans' 2026 class made it official on Wednesday night, with quarterback Kayd Coffman signing shortly after 7:30 p.m. ET. Coffman -- who hails from Grand Rapids, Mich. -- signed his national letter of intent with Michigan State on the opening day of the early signing period on Wednesday.

Coffman is rated as a four-star prospect, with a recruiting rating of 89.90 in 247Sports' composite system. He ranks as the No. 25 quarterback in the class nationally, and is listed as the No. 5 player from Michigan. He is also ranked nationally as the No. 364 overall prospect.

Coffman was one of the first to commit to Michigan State, with his verbal commitment occurring in February. He picked up some steam on the recruiting trail during the summer months, with Ohio State at one point showing interest in Coffman.

Holding onto Coffman's commitment following the firing of Jonathan Smith is a major win for the Spartans and bodes well for the future under new head coach Pat Fitzgerald. This is great news for Michigan State football and should excite fans on yet another high-level quarterback joining the mix in East Lansing, Mich.
