The San Francisco Giants are looking to take the next step after hovering around .500 for the last four seasons. They have not been to the postseason since the 2021 season, and fans would love to see them return in 2026.

San Francisco goes into the offseason looking to acquire another starting pitcher to pair with Logan Webb and Robbie Ray. While it is unlikely they will be interested in the top names, like Framber Valdez, they could still acquire a No. 2 or 3 starter on the open market.

Outside of Framber Valdez, there are a ton of quality starting pitchers who could help bolster San Francisco's rotation. The Athletic's Jim Bowden points to Nick Martinez as a name that could be in play for the Giants over the winter.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement"Martinez is a plus in the clubhouse and his versatility is very valuable. The Padres, Giants, Mets, and Braves are potential landing spots for Martinez."
While Bowden points to the Giants, they are not the only ones he views as potential suitors. He also lists a return with the San Diego Padres could happen, along with signing with the New York Mets or Atlanta Braves.
One thing that makes Martinez more valuable than other starters on the open market is his ability to play into the swingman role. He can start games or come out of the bullpen, which is something most pitchers cannot do. Martinez could help bolster San Francisco's starting rotation or be moved into the bullpen when management views it as needed.
