The streaming release date for the new Channing Tatum movie Roofman has been revealed. Roofman is based on a true story, following robber Jeffrey Manchester (Tatum) escaping from prison and hiding inside the ceiling and walls of a Toys "R" Us. The movie's ensemble cast also includes Kirsten Dunst, Peter Dinklage, LaKeith Stanfield, and Juno Temple.

Paramount+ has now announced that Roofman will debut on the streaming platform on December 9 in the United States and Canada, with further international availability to be announced at a later date. That date marks almost exactly two months after the movie first debuted in theaters on October 10.

The Channing Tatum movie, which was directed and co-written by Derek Cianfrance, previously debuted on premium VOD on November 11, spending three consecutive weeks in the Top 10 on Apple's VOD platform.

Streaming could give Roofman the opportunity to shine even more than it has in any previous venue. While it has performed well on VOD, it ultimately had a middling performance in theaters, grossing $33 million against its reported budget of $18 million.

It is unknown if the movie broke even in theaters, because releases sometimes need to earn back as much as two and a half times their budgets, which could place Roofman's estimated break-even point somewhere around $45 million.

VOD and streaming revenue will most likely work in tandem to push the movie over the edge, if VOD hasn't done so already. While it didn't draw huge crowds in theaters, the movie is very well-positioned to be a boon for Paramount+.

The streaming service is home to quite a few smaller-scale adult dramas that have become streaming hits. In fact, at the time of writing, multiple titles on their Top 10 charts for movies and television are similarly adult-oriented, including American Made, Django Unchained, and the Taylor Sheridan dramas Mayor of Kingstown, Landman, and Tulsa King.

While its genre already gives it potential as a streaming title, it has also received a substantial amount of critical acclaim. Roofman reviews have been glowing ever since it debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 6, earning it a Certified Fresh Rotten Tomatoes score of 86%.

Roofman is also performing well with the audiences that have already seen it. On the Rotten Tomatoes Popcornmeter, it has nearly matched its Tomatometer score with a solid 85%. That, combined with its early December date and family-friendly story, sets it up to be prime viewing material for when families gather for the holidays.
