Red Dead Redemption is back in a big way, as the original is now available for free on Netflix, and upgrades for current-gen consoles are rolling out as we speak. That's on top of the constant revelations and chatter from the Red Dead Redemption 2 community, which has been boosted by Rockstar's recent moves with the GTA series.
Just know that if you've been having issues upgrading your copy of the original game recently, there is light at the end of the tunnel. It seems like those problems have been resolved, and you're now good to go, with one catch.
Red Dead Redemption's Xbox Series Upgrade Is Rolling Out
It Took A Bit Of Time
After a failure to launch, the Red Dead Redemption upgrade is now live across all platforms, which allows users to get the current-generation version of the game for free. There were some initial issues with the Xbox edition of the game, as it displayed an odd price for the upgrade instead of a 100% discount.
Originally, fans were met with a $24.99 price for the upgrade, confusing people who thought the upgrade would be free. That issue has been resolved, and the original game is showing up for people on the Xbox storefront, as well as the PSN.
So what do you actually get out of this upgrade? Well, there are visual enhancements, better draw distance, and a framerate boost. Just know that there is a catch when it comes to the upgrade path.
You Don't Have Long To Claim The Free Upgrade
At This Point, It's Less Than Two Weeks
On Xbox, the offer to upgrade to the current-gen edition of Red Dead Redemption expires in 13 days. After that, it will seemingly shift back to a $49.99 MSRP. We've reached out to Rockstar for comment to see if this is intentional, but it's very important to remember to upgrade your copy for free within the given timeline, in the off chance that this expiration date holds.
Remember, you don't need to physically log into your console to grab the upgrade. You can simply redeem it through an online storefront, so if you're away from your systems for the next few weeks, there's still hope.
It's a testament to how timeless this series is that people are still looking forward to replaying Red Dead Redemption after all these years. It's a perfect companion for the sequel, as the friendship between Arthur Morgan and James Marston shines throughout, linking them in a way that makes them feel like the same universe, albeit with a completely different framing.
