The New York Yankees were unable to make it to the World Series for a second consecutive season. Now, a key pitcher is on the open market.

Luke Weaver transitioned into a bullpen role for the Yankees and was a great piece. He was a huge reason the team made it to the World Series in 2024. Weaver has pitched in 129 games for the Yankees, and losing him would be a blow to the bullpen. He has served in many roles for the team, and NorthJersey.com's Andrew Tredinnick predicted he would sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Dodgers signed Tanner Scott last offseason, but he was not the star closer they hoped for. He was inconsistent, and he was unable to pitch in the postseason. The Dodgers turned to Rōki Sasaki to close games in October, but he figures to return to the starting rotation next season.

If the Dodgers do not want to bank on Scott finding All-Star form again, they could sign Weaver. He has experience as a closer, and if Scott is back on track, Weaver could be an elite setup man.

Weaver had four saves in the 2024 postseason and finished eight games for the Yankees. He had a 1.76 ERA in 12 postseason games that year and was a key player for the Yankees.
