One of the brilliant minds behind Apple TV’s most successful sci-fi series has some strong praise for the platform’s new show. Although not credited as a writer, Ben Stiller is the lead director on Severance, the sci-fi masterpiece starring Adam Scott. Stiller also gives plenty of input and is widely viewed as one of the show’s biggest creative figures. Apple TV has become the premier streaming service for sci-fi TV shows, and it has another hit on its hands with Pluribus. Stiller even took to his personal X account to celebrate the new series, which has broken Severance’s record as Apple’s most-watched new sci-fi series.
Pluribus stars Rhea Seehorn, and it tells the story of Carol, a woman stuck in a world overtaken by a mysterious wave of happiness. Carol is one of the few people on the planet immune to this sudden wave of joy, and she takes it upon herself to save the world from the bliss. Pluribus was written and created for TV by Vince Gilligan. In addition to serving as one of the lead producers on The X-Files, Gilligan is also famous for his work creating Breaking Bad. He even wrote the offshoot series, Better Call Saul.
New seasons of both Pluribus and Severance are on the way, and Stiller even confirmed recently that the new season of Severance is coming “soon-ish.” Fans jumped into a frenzy over this comment, but Stiller’s definition of soon likely falls outside the norm. There are no reports that Severance Season 3 has even begun production, and although Stiller has promised a smaller gap between the second and third seasons, it likely won’t be coming anytime before the end of 2026.
‘Pluribus’ Isn’t Going Anywhere Anytime Soon
Fans of Pluribus can take comfort in knowing that the show will be around for a while. Apple TV has already renewed Pluribus for a second season, a decision many viewed as a gamble at the time. Not only has Pluribus been a hit on streaming for Apple TV, but the show has also earned widespread critical acclaim. It currently sits at a nearly perfect 98% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. With the way things are going now, Apple TV may have found another flagship property in Pluribus, which is shaping up to be an all-time sci-fi hit.
Check out the first few episodes of Pluribus on Apple TV and stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of the show.
