The digital world of the Grid is coming home next month. Tron: Ares, the latest installment of the cult-favorite Disney science fiction franchise, will be available to buy or rent on all major digital platforms on December 2, 2025. If you want it on physical media, you'll have to wait a little longer: it'll hit DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K on January 6, 2026.

The digital and physical media editions of the film will include a number of bonus features. They include three deleted scenes (including a cameo from original Tron writer/director Steven Lisberger) and a number of featurettes, including discussions with the cast and crew, discussions with director Joachim Rønning (Maleficent: Mistress of Evil) and star/producer Jared Leto (Dallas Buyer's Club) about their journey in making the film, and an examination of the legacy of the Tron franchise. The 4K Blu-ray edition of the film will also be available in a limited edition SteelBook case, to go with the new remastered 4K versions of Tron and Tron: Legacy that are on the horizon.

What Is 'Tron: Ares' About?

Tron and Tron: Legacy are both about humans from the real world being transported into the digital world of The Grid. Tron: Ares flips that premise on its head, as tech tycoon Julian Dillinger (Evan Peters) attempts to bring the digital beings of The Grid into the real world to be used as programmable super-soldiers. However, he's having trouble making them last more than 29 minutes. Also working on that problem is new ENCOM CEO Eve Kim (Greta Lee), who has less militaristic ambitions. She ends up joining forces with Ares (Leto), one of Dillinger's programs, who wishes to live in the real world; that puts them both in the crosshairs of Dillinger and Ares' deadly compatriot, Athena (Jodie Turner-Smith). Soon, they're on the run, and only one man can help them: Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), the first human ever to enter the Grid. But will it be enough to save them?

Collider's Ross Bonaime enjoyed the film, praising it for being the first film in the series "that begins to realize the possibilities of this world created over 40 years ago." He had particular praise for the performances of Lee and Turner-Smith, the visuals of director Rønning, and the pulsing score by Nine Inch Nails.

Tron: Ares will be released on all major digital platforms on December 2, 2025, and on disc on January 6, 2026. Stay tuned to Collider for future updates. End of line.
