PITTSBURG, KS. — Pittsburg State Football assistant coach Mark Smith has been elevated to the role of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach, Head Coach Tom Anthony announced Tuesday.
Smith has served as wide receivers coach and passing game coordinator on the Pitt State staff for the last two seasons.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementBefore his time on the sidelines, Smith compiled a 24-6 overall record as the Gorillas’ starting quarterback between 2006-2008. During his time under center in Pittsburg, Smith compiled 5,190 yards and 40 touchdowns through the air with 2,364 yards and 29 scores in the run game.
Due to his efforts on the field, Smith was inducted into the Pittsburg State Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2024.
Prior to joining the Pitt State coaching staff in 2024, Smith manned the position of head football coach at Frontenac High School for 12 seasons. During his time with the Raiders, Smith accrued a 94-38 (.712) overall record and reached at leas the state quarterfinals in eight of his 12 seasons with the program.
With Smith being promoted to OC, assistant coach Gregg Hollins will now serve as the Gorillas’ wide receiver coach while retaining his duties as special teams coordinator.
