UNC currently sits at 4-7, meaning they’re not bowl eligible this year. Belichick’s inaugural season in Chapel Hill has been one marked more by challenges than triumphs.
Belichick has made it clear he doesn’t intend to leave, but speculation about a return to the NFL persists. According to Josina Anderson on Tuesday, “at least two NFL teams” are still expected to be interested in speaking with the six-time Super Bowl-winning coach. Anderson also noted a “third team could enter the mix” if a specific personnel change is made by ownership.

Rumors surfaced over a month ago suggesting that Belichick and the Tar Heels were discussing a buyout midway through his first season as head coach. Those claims were quickly dismissed by both Belichick and UNC athletic director Bubba Cunningham.
"I'm fully committed to UNC Football and the program we're building here," Belichick said in October.
"Coach Belichick has the full support of the Department of Athletics and the University," Cunningham added.
...Belichick has left an everlasting mark on the NFL as the architect of one of the most iconic dynasties in league history. During his time with the New England Patriots, he led the team to six Super Bowl victories and, while his first season at UNC hasn’t been ideal, he remains one of the most respected coaches in the sport.
That said, at 73 years old, how much longer Belichick intends to coach will play a major role in any potential opportunities he may explore outside of Chapel Hill.
