Just before 5 p.m. on Tuesday evening, BYU formally announced that it had reached an agreement on a contract extension with head football coach Kalani Sitake after several tense days that saw him explore taking the same position at Penn State.

Just before 5:30, BYU director of football operations Jack Damuni posted a video on X of Sitake telling his players that he’d be staying with them.

“Listen, I know we talked about it yesterday and all that, but you don’t need anymore distractions, OK?,” Sitake said. “You guys know we’re working out all the details with agents and everything, but I’m not going anywhere.”

At that point, Sitake was about to continue talking but was completely drowned out by loud cheers from his players. Then, led by senior defensive end Logan Lutui, players swarmed him, gathered together and continued loudly cheering.

Damuni wrote in his post in all capital letters, “HE AIN’T GOING NO WHERE!!! GO COUGS!!!”

BYU, which is No. 11 in the latest College Football Playoff rankings released Tuesday evening, is preparing to face No. 4 Texas Tech in the Big 12 title game on Saturday.
