The late, great Tony Scott unfortunately didn't live to see the success of Top Gun: Maverick, the long-awaited sequel to his beloved film Top Gun. Scott died in 2012, two years after directing what would be his final movie, the critically acclaimed box office hit Unstoppable. 15 Years old at this point, Unstoppable is available to watch on the Tubi streaming service this December, as a new generation of action aficionados can discover its thrills. Although Unstoppable was unambiguously successful in every way possible, it remains underrated in its own way, often overshadowed by the more popular Mad Max: Fury Road and John Wick in conversations about the best action movies of the last two decades.

Unstoppable was headlined by Denzel Washington and Chris Pine, who played a mismatched pair of engineers who take it upon themselves to stop a runaway freight train carrying explosive material. The breakneck, 98-minute spectacle also featured Rosario Dawson, Ethan Suplee, and Kevin Dunn. Produced on a reported budget of $100 million, the movie made nearly $170 million worldwide; it was more successful than Scott's previous film, The Taking of Pelham 123, also starring Washington. He'd worked with the star on the hit films Man on Fire, Déjà Vu, and Crimson Tide. Scott also directed the memorable movies True Romance, Beverly Hills Cop II, and Days of Thunder, which may get a sequel soon.

'Unstoppable' Was Hailed As "Tony Scott's Best Movie in Years"

Unstoppable is now sitting at a "certified fresh" 87% score on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, where the critics' consensus reads, "As fast, loud, and relentless as the train at the center of the story, Unstoppable is perfect popcorn entertainment — and director Tony Scott's best movie in years." Pine had just debuted as James T. Kirk in J.J. Abrams' 2009 reboot Star Trek, and would go on to star in two further sequels. He also played the titular role in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit, the love interest in Wonder Woman, and recently headlined the $150 million fantasy film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves. Washington last starred in Spike Lee's Highest 2 Lowest, which debuted on Apple TV+ two months ago.

You can watch Unstoppable on Tubi beginning December 1, and stay tuned to Collider for more updates.
