With the early signing period in college football days away, Penn State has lost another former commitment to James Franklin and Virginia Tech (Franklin has been busy flipping former Penn State commits to his new program). The latest player to choose to follow Franklin to his new school is quarterback Troy Huhn. Huhn announced his commitment to Virginia Tech over Penn State on Monday afternoon.
Given the recent trends in the recruiting process, Huhn to Virginia Tech appeared likely to unfold. Huhn was among the players to back off his commitment to Penn State shortly after the school fired Franklin as head coach in the middle of the season. With Virginia Tech losing a key quarterback recruit amid its own coaching transition, Franklin hoped to be able to convince Huhn to come down to Blacksburg.

Huhn following Franklin to Virginia Tech mirrors a previous recruiting win for Franklin from when he took the job at Penn State. Quarterback Trace McSorley backed off his commitment to Vanderbilt and followed Franklin to Penn State. If Huhn ends up being as successful for Franklin at Virginia Tech as McSorley was at Penn State, then this will be a massive loss for the Nittany Lions.
Penn State is still on the search for its next head coach. Whoever ends up being named the next head coach will have his hands full on the recruiting front. Penn State's Class of 2026 has been decimated since the removal of Franklin, and a number of key recruits have joined Franklin and Huhn in Blacksburg.
