Steam Drops "Amazingly Addictive" New Free Game, No Subscription Needed

It's become increasingly tough to find quality games on Steam, especially if you're wading into free-to-play territory, but we found a gem.

If you've ever browsed Steam without curation tools, you'd know how hard it is to find quality games. There are hundreds of titles released every month on the widely popular platform, making it impossible to narrow things down.

However, you can't really beat free, especially if the game has a proven track record with users. The Perfect Tower 2 checks both boxes.

Steam's Latest Free Game Is A Hit

It's Sitting At Very Positive Reviews

The Perfect Tower 2 is described as a mix of multiple genres, including tower defense. You'll build a town/base, play some Mario Party style minigames, and slowly upgrade while managing some automation aspects.

In other words, it sounds like a mobile game at its core, but the "very positive" reviews on Steam speak for themselves. People have found that The Perfect Tower II is an excellent take on all the above concepts, with plenty of variety to boot. Given that folks can play it on portable devices like the Steam Deck, it's great for short spurts or lengthy sessions.

There are 15 regions across five modes (normal, endless, challenge, idle, sandbox), which suit multiple playstyles and player schedules. You'll also slowly unlock more content, like cosmetics and secrets. Even if you eventually put it down, it sounds like it delivers on exactly what it says on the tin.

Perfect Tower 2 Is Hard To Put Down

You Can Pretty Much Play It Whenever

For me, the minigames really sell the idea of playing The Perfect Tower 2 over many other similar games. Far too many base-building games are entirely automated, and while that is an aspect that's present here, I prefer games that center on active play, or at least provide the option in addition to all the numbers-go-up chaos. Ever since Cookie Clicker ages ago, folks have been looking for something that hits some of the same high notes, and only a few games have delivered on that front.

In addition to the lengthy amount of content The Perfect Tower 2 offers, there's also DLC planned in the form of modding. While this module for the game currently has no release date, it does have its own Steam listing. According to the store page, it sounds pretty ambitious: "Extend the game by adding your own modules, regions, buildings, and more. Easily replace existing assets like textures, music, and models inside the game."

If you find yourself browsing Steam endlessly for something to play, try The Perfect Tower 2. As a bonus, developer Fire Sword Studios has also created a community around it, and promises that users can help "influence the future of the game."
