Tennessee DL Jamal Wallace plans to enter NCAA transfer portal

Tennessee defensive lineman Jamal Wallace plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal, On3’s Pete Nakos confirmed. He spent the last two seasons in Knoxville.

In two seasons at Tennessee, Wallace played in just nine games over the course of two years. He had seven total tackles when he saw the field.

As a member of the Class of 2019, Wallace was a three-star JUCO recruit out of Kansas City (Mo.) Ruskin, according to the Rivals Industry Ranking. He was the No. 6 overall prospect in the state of California, the No. 6 at his position and the No. 35 overall prospect.

Jamal Wallace first portal domino for Tennessee

Wallace is the first player to enter the portal, with likely more to come in and out of Tennessee. Head coach Josh Heupel addressed what the offseason will bring following a season-ending loss to Vanderbilt.

“This (game) just wrapped up a few seconds ago,” Heupel said. “It’s my job to evaluate everything inside of our program and, you know, I told our players we’ve had some disappointing results, but the second half was extremely disappointing. Coaches and players, not just one.”

Heupel was also asked Saturday night what the coming days will look like for the Tennessee coaching staff as the Vols await their bowl game destination.

“We’ll have a chance to meet with our guys and move forward as a program,” he said, “and revisit the season and look backwards before we look forwards, too.”
