The Indianapolis Colts are hopeful that they will get cornerback Sauce Gardner back during the regular season.

Gardner exited Sunday's game against the Houston Texans after the second defensive play of the game with a calf injury.

It has since been reported that Gardner is working through a calf strain. According to Ian Rapoport, he is "week-to-week" at this time.

"Colts star CB Sauce Gardner, who suffered a calf strain in Sunday’s loss, is considered week-to-week with the hope he’s back during the regular season," Rapoport posted on X. "Not long-term. But he’ll miss some time."

Without Gardner, Mekhi Blackmon and Jaylon Jones each saw snaps at outside cornerback opposite of Charvarius Ward.

In Gardner's first two games with the Colts, he has allowed five receptions on 10 targets for 38 yards with two pass breakups. He's also made 12 tackles.

With Gardner, the Colts have become a very man-coverage-heavy defense. That approach from defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo could change while Gardner is sidelined.

The Colts are now 8-4 on the season, and they are tied with Jacksonville for the AFC South lead, while Houston is only one game back.

All five of the Colts' remaining games are against teams with winning records.
