The sanction relates to multiple failures to pay players, staff and HMRC across March, May and June. Former owner Dejphon Chansiri has also been handed a three-year ban from owning or directing any EFL club, bringing a decisive end to his troubled decade at Hillsborough.

The EFL confirmed ongoing investigations into the club’s conduct this season but added it does not intend to impose any further points penalties.
Administrators continue to search for a preferred bidder, with hopes of naming one by Friday. The club also remains in discussions with the EFL regarding its appeal over a fee restriction originally set to last until 2027, a measure now expected to be lifted in January as part of Wednesday’s exit from administration.
While supporters have endured months of instability, there is cautious optimism. New ownership would arrive with a clean slate next season, starting on zero points and, crucially, free to operate in the transfer market. With competing bidders believed to be in place, Wednesday’s long-awaited rebuild may soon begin, even as their fate in this campaign appears sealed.
