By Cole SullivanShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberThe No. 7 Ole Miss Rebels have been one of the most impressive teams in college football this season, suffering just one loss and putting together what many consider the best season in program history.
As they now transition into what is likely a College Football Playoff bid when the 12-team bracket is announced on Dec. 7, the Rebels will be operating without former head coach Lane Kiffin.
Kiffin departed over the weekend for Baton Rouge after agreeing to a seven-year, $91 million deal with the LSU Tigers, leaving Ole Miss early after AD Keith Carter denied his proposal to coach the team through the playoff run.
Stepping in as the now-permanent head coach in Oxford is defensive coordinator Pete Golding, and the roster remains intact for what the Rebels hope will be a national title run.
On Monday, ESPN released predictions for the College Football Playoff matchups. If Ole Miss secures an eight seed or higher, they would host a first-round game in Oxford. According to Kyle Bonagura, the Rebels are projected to take on SEC rival Alabama, who he predicts will be the No. 10 seed.

Ole Miss did not face Alabama this season. Their sole loss came in a shootout against the No. 4 Georgia Bulldogs, who pulled away late in the second half after a dominant fourth quarter, outscoring the Rebels 17-0 to win 43-35.
The Crimson Tide, meanwhile, have also been involved in several high-scoring games this season but suffered only one SEC loss, to the Oklahoma Sooners. However, they stumbled in Week 1, losing their season opener to the Florida State Seminoles, who finished 5-7 and missed out on a bowl game.
