Matt Lauer is now looking to get back into media years after he was ousted from the TV sector. Lauer was a former host of the Today show, presenting on the program for over 20 years. Over the course of his two-decade tenure there, Lauer featured on over 900 episodes.

His time abruptly ended in 2017, during the height of the #MeToo movement. In November 2017, a former colleague of the Today show host came forward with a complaint that detailed Lauer's inappropriate sexual behavior towards her. NBC then conducted an in-depth investigation, which culminated in his firing shortly thereafter.

As per People, Lauer is now planning a return to the media in some capacity. An unnamed insider provided an update on the disgraced host, saying that he is "doing well in his private life." Nonetheless, he is "still angry" with the way things shook out in the industry.

As such, he now "wants to get back into the media arena in some capacity, if not TV." In the meantime, he is focused on his role as a "good father" and is focusing on spending time with his adult children. Check out the insider's full quote below:

[Lauer is] doing well in his private life [and] wants to get back into the media arena in some capacity, if not TV. He has talked to some people about it.

[He is] still angry [with] the way he was treated by the industry and people he thought were his friends.

The source did not get specific about what Lauer's return would look like. It sounds like TV is on the table, even if not the only avenue that the former Today show host would explore in his re-entry into the media.

This news provides a direct contrast to what Lauer had previously said regarding his return to the public eye. When asked last year, a source close to Lauer said that he had no plans to return to the media. What exactly spurred this change of heart remains unclear.

The current moment is a particularly dicey time for news anchors and talk show hosts. This year alone has seen the indefinite suspension of Jimmy Kimmel, which was later rescinded, after comments he made surrounding the murder of Charlie Kirk.

As such, this would be a particularly volatile time for Lauer to re-enter the TV sector, if he were to do so in anything adjacent to his previous field. It is not an easy time for anyone in this area of television, let alone someone who has previously been ousted from the industry.

If Lauer is to more seriously make moves back into the public eye, it will be interesting to see how he is perceived. Post-MeToo movement, audiences have a greater awareness of the prevalence of sexual misconduct in the industry. Matt Lauer may fight an uphill battle when it comes to getting past his reputation.
