By Marni Rose McFallShareNewsweek is a Trust Project memberSenator Cory Booker married Alexis Lewis shortly after the pair announced their engagement in September. This is what to know about his new wife.
Why It Matters
Earlier this year, Booker, 56, a New Jersey Democrat, delivered a 25-hour filibuster speech on the Senate floor where he lambasted President Donald Trump's administration.
This speech broke the record for the longest Senate filibuster ever, surpassing the late South Carolina Senator Strom Thurmond's speech opposing the Civil Rights Act of 1957. But beyond that, it thrust Booker into the spotlight, with his speech resonating among Democratic voters who had been looking for a strong and vocal opposition to Trump from Democrats.
It also piqued interest in Booker as a potential presidential hopeful in 2028. It is well understood that being married helps your chances in running for the White House. And while being married isn’t an official essential, it may well be considered one, given that America hasn’t elected an unmarried president since 1884.
...What To Know
Lewis, 38, works in real estate and is a vice president of investments at Brasa Capital Management.
Prior to working at Brasa, she worked in politics, serving as an economic policy manager for the Los Angeles Mayor's Office of Economic Development.
She has a Bachelor of Arts in marketing degree from New York University and a Master of Business Administration from Cornell University’s SC Johnson College of Business.
The pair announced their engagement in September. Booker wrote in an Instagram post at the time, “Alexis is one of the greatest unearned blessings of my life. She has transformed me, helping me to ground and center my inner life, and discover the joys of building a nurturing home with someone you love. I’m thrilled to share: Alexis and I are engaged!”
Lewis has shared multiple snaps on the platform, including one with Booker and Bruce Springsteen, which she captioned “quickly becoming a Jersey girl.”
Before they made their relationship public, Booker told the Washington Examiner that he and Lewis had been together for a year and a half, and that they had been introduced through friends.

Cory and Alexis Booker, in a post on Instagram: “Overflowing with gratitude. We said 'I do' in two places that shaped us—Cory’s beloved Newark and Alexis’s hometown of Washington, D.C.—first at the courthouse, then with our families. Hearts full and so grateful.”
