Yankees could make Jasson Dominguez move that would have seemed 'unfathomable' originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
Depending on what the New York Yankees want to do in the offseason in the outfield, there’s a very good chance that youngster Jasson Dominguez might not be in their plans.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementThe Yankees already brought back Trent Grisham, and with some expecting them to do the same with Cody Bellinger, there might no longer be an obvious fit for Dominguez.
Unfortunately, the 22-year-old hasn’t exactly played too well during his time in the show, and many question whether Spencer Jones could come up and take his spot.
The latest to suggest that was Brian Murphy of MLB.com, who stated that one of the biggest questions the Yankees have to ponder this offseason is what they want to do with the former top prospect.
“He garnered comparisons to Mike Trout and Mickey Mantle as a teenager. He looked like a can't-miss star -- a switch-hitting slugger with the athleticism to play anywhere in the outfield and steal 30-plus bases. But now heading into 2026, it feels like Jasson Domínguez's career in New York is already at a crossroads...
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisement“Still just 22 years old, Domínguez obviously possesses gobs of potential. If the team can't work out a deal for Bellinger or Tucker, or if it believes top outfield prospect Spencer Jones isn't quite ready, Domínguez might get another shot at extended playing time. But if the Yankees do make another outfield addition, they could do something that would have seemed unfathomable not too long ago and decide to trade Domínguez to upgrade the roster elsewhere,” he wrote.
Giving up on a 22-year-old like Dominguez after he was expected to be one of the best players in baseball would be strange from the Yankees’ perspective, but if their goal is strictly to win now and they believe Jones and others will help them do that, it can’t be ruled out.
Sadly, it seems like Dominguez won’t be what many expected him to be.
