The return of Joan Garcia earlier this month has been quite a blessing for Barcelona.

After a period of Wojciech Szczesny struggling to provide security in between the sticks, the Spaniard returned from injury after the international break, and Barcelona have never had to look back since.

In the three matches he has played so far after returning, Garcia has been flawless, to say the least, with his most recent display coming against Alaves.

In the 3-1 victory, Garcia was instrumental. With the score precariously tied at 1-1 in the first half, the former Espanyol star produced a miraculous reflex save to deny Jonny from point-blank range – a moment widely regarded as the turning point of the match.

Barcelona confident about Garcia’s Spain call-up

In light of his brilliant displays after returning from injury, Barcelona are confident of Garcia finally getting his maiden call-up to the Spanish national team, reports MARCA.

The camp believes it is only a matter of time before Luis de la Fuente, who has historically preferred having Barcelona players in the team, calls up the Spanish goalkeeper.

The competition for the Spanish number one shirt is fierce, with Unai Simon, David Raya, and Alex Remiro currently occupying the three spots.

However, Garcia’s statistics are becoming impossible to ignore. Having conceded just nine goals and kept four clean sheets in his ten appearances this season, he is arguably the most in-form Spanish goalkeeper in La Liga.

For now, Garcia must remain patient. With the international breaks for 2025 now concluded, his next opportunity to impress the national team selector will not come until next year.

With the World Cup just around the corner, it will be interesting to see if Barcleona can find himself on the Spain roster heading into the big event in the summer.
