Animal Crossing: New Horizons has a new update on the way, but I'm even more excited about a brand new, debut adventure from an indie studio. I'm talking about The Regreening, a cozy Animal Crossing-esque title about restoring the world, one plant at a time.
The Regreening, from Positive Impact Games, is shaping up to be a beautiful game about the hopeful side of exploring a post-apocalyptic world. Players will be tasked with growing plants and creating thriving ecosystems, creating an upcycling hub, and befriending the world's spirits and animals. And yes, you can hug all the animals.

Bring Life Back To A Barren Wasteland
Like many cozy games, The Regreening is wholesome on the surface, with an impactful message under its soft outer layer. Self-described as a "cozy soilpunk sim," The Regreening sends players on an adventure to restore nature to a world that's become a wasteland, a la Fallout.
In this game, the world is literally your garden. Playing as the human Viri, players will cultivate and restore various seeds and animals, recycle and craft with junk left behind by her predecessors, harvest fruits, and even befriend the spirits that roam the lands.
The Regreening is made with cozy gamers in mind, and will be both entirely low-stakes and high-consequence. That is, there are no timers or pressure to complete tasks within any time frame, but every action you take will have visible consequences for the world.
Watch the world regrow to its former glory thanks to your restoration efforts. The idea behind The Regreening is that a single human can make a huge difference. According to an official press release, "The Regreening is ultimately a game about healing the bond between humans and nature and rebuilding a sense of harmony in the natural world."
No Release Window Yet
A New Trailer Was Released Recently
The Regreening will be the debut title from a new, Hamburg-based studio, Positive Impact Games. The woman-led game dev studio might be new on the scene, but its team of five has plenty of experience in game development, with credits including Path of Exile, Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, and June’s Journey.
A new trailer was revealed on November 17, which is viewable on the Positive Impact Games YouTube channel. No release window has been announced yet, but you can wishlist The Regreening right now on Steam while you wait for news on the next Animal Crossing game.
