Jujutsu Kaisen's sequel just brought back a member of the original main trio. But instead of a joyous reunion, it's a grim reminder that Gege Akutami's story doesn't have happy endings. Although Yuji Itadori's return was the only one confirmed so far in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, the manga is slowly revealing who else made it to the new series alive.

Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo takes place 68 years after the Culling Games, so naturally few characters from the original manga manage to live that long. However, a new cameo by Nobara Kugisaki not only hinted at what happened to her character during all that time but also revealed the tragic fate that's tied to Yuji Itadori.

In chapter #13 of Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo, it is hinted that Nobara Kugisaki lives comfortably in an expensive-looking apartment, which is in line with her character, as she has always shown her taste for spending money and life in a big city. Nobara was interviewed about Yuji's whereabouts, stating she hasn't had contact with him since Hana Kurusu's funeral.

The reason Yuji decided to distance himself from Nobara is because he can't age at all, so he doesn't want to experience the pain of knowing he is outliving his friends nor remind them that time passes for them but not for him. According to Nobara, Yuji's greatest mental burden is the fact that he cannot fulfill his grandfather's last wish.

Wasuke Itadori's last wish was that Yuji die surrounded by people, and his apparent immortality no longer allows him to do so. This doesn't surprise fans, due to Yuji's last appearance, where he looked significantly younger, which aligns with his body no longer being entirely human after consuming the Death Paintings.

The confirmation of Yuji's loss and hopelessness reminds fans of how depressing Jujutsu Kaisen's story is, which, unlike other shōnen manga, didn't shy away from delivering lasting consequences and the saddest possible outcome for its protagonist, depriving him of the chance to depart when his time comes, as his grandfather wished, and of living a normal life and growing old.

Although Nobara seems to have had a good life, Jujutsu Kaisen's story has been cruel to other characters besides Yuji, such as Panda, whose core stopped working and became a relic, or the current struggles of Yuta Okkotsu and Maki Zenin's grandchildren. After tensions arose between the Simurians and the Sorcerers, the aliens demanded a duel, and Yuka Okkotsu will be Earth's representative.

The reason for her choice could be that Yuka has cancer and only a few months to live, so she might be sacrificing herself to prevent someone else from dying after losing to Dabura, who is as strong as a special-grade sorcerer. What's worse is that the impact of the disease on Yuka's body is quite noticeable.

This upcoming showdown proves that Jujutsu Kaisen's story always surprises fans with its ruthlessness, suggesting they shouldn't get too attached to characters. Nevertheless, though Nobara doesn't seem to have a recurring role in the story, fans should be eager to see which other beloved character appears later in Jujutsu Kaisen Modulo.
