Instead, they're viewed as a potential play-in tournament team or a low seed that earned instant postseason qualification. Nevertheless, expectations for the Celtics are lower than in recent years. After all, multiple key members of the rotation were allowed to leave this summer, both via trade and free agency.
Despite a wave of changes, Joe Mazzulla's team is proving itself to be competitive. They're hustling on defense, pressuring teams on offense, and are making solid use of the mid-range shot as they lean into Jaylen Brown's skill set. Of course, they must continue to improve if they're going to become a playoff team, despite being in a retooling phase.
