Syracuse avoided a shutout with seven seconds left last week in its 70-7 loss at No. 9 Notre Dame. Joseph Filardi got the Orange on the board with a six-yard touchdown run in a game in which the Fighting Irish hung up 35 first-quarter points and led 49-0 at the half, with their first three scores coming from a pair of pick-sixes and a punt return score. Filardi was just 14-of-26 for 83 yards and three interceptions while leading the ground game with 33 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries. Syracuse mustered just 207 yards of offense.
Boston College comes off a bye week following a 36-34 loss to visiting Georgia Tech on Nov. 15. The Eagles haven’t beaten an FBS opponent in nearly a year, since a 34-23 win over visiting Pitt on Nov. 30 last season. Dylan Lonergan has 2,017 yards with 12 touchdowns and five interceptions in nine games, while Turbo Richard leads the team with 647 yards and seven scores on the ground. Lewis Bond has 80 receptions for 822 yards and a touchdown, while Reed Harris has five touchdown catches.
It’s been a hard fall for two teams that played in bowl games a season ago, and Syracuse comes in with a 34-24 edge in the all-time series. Boston College, however, has won the last two meetings, including a 37-31 home win last season.
