Penn State has won two in a row in the wake of a six-game losing streak that included the firing of coach James Franklin last month. The Nittany Lions pounded visiting Nebraska 37-10 last week behind 160 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries from Kaytron Allen, while Nicholas Singleton also scored twice on the ground. Ethan Grunkemeyer finished 11-of-12 for 181 yards and a TD to Andrew Rappleyea. The defense picked up three sacks in the Senior Day win.
Rutgers comes off a 42-9 loss at No. 1 Ohio State last week. The Scarlet Knights were held to 147 yards of total offense, with Antwan Raymond finishing with 52 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Athan Kaliakmanis was 10-of-20 for 81 yards and took four sacks in the loss, and the defense surrendered 430 yards, including 254 on the ground.
The Nittany Lions, now 2-3 under interim coach Terry Smith, hold a 32-2 all-time lead in the series with Rutgers and have won 17 straight games, most recently a 27-6 win at home in 2023. The Scarlet Knights haven’t beaten Penn State since 1988 and have never posted a win at home in the series.
