The Big Ten championship game race is down to the final week of the regular season.

No. 1 Ohio State and No. 2 Indiana are the front-runners to face off in a massive conference title game, with the Hoosiers looking to win their first-ever title since they shared a championship in 1967. No. 5 Oregon and No. 15 Michigan also have shots at playing for the Big Ten championship, with the Ducks in particular needing help to book their flights to Indianapolis.

In fact, the Wolverines have a chance at making the Big Ten title game by winning "The Game," perhaps the best rivalry in college football history. To add to the fire, the Wolverines have won four consecutive games against the Buckeyes, despite Ohio State winning a national championship in 2024.

Of course, that 13-10 upset in Columbus, Ohio kept Ryan Day and Co. from adding a Big Ten title to their trophy case as well.

Here's everything to know of the Big Ten championship race, including what each team needs to reach the title game:

Big Ten championship tiebreakers

Ohio State

  • Easiest Big Ten championship path: Beat Michigan

Ohio State's path is simple: Beat Michigan, and you're in. Lose to Michigan, and you're looking forward to the College Football Playoff.

The Buckeyes would fall out of the Big Ten championship game with a loss, as Michigan would also have one conference loss with a head-to-head tiebreaker win over Ohio State. In a four-way tie chaos scenario with Ohio State, Indiana, Oregon and Michigan all at one loss each, Oregon and Michigan would reach the title game due to seven tiebreakers resulting in the matchup.

Ohio State could still reach the Big Ten title game with a loss if Indiana and Oregon both lose, which would pit the Buckeyes against ... the Wolverines.

Indiana

  • Easiest Big Ten championship path: Beat Purdue OR Ohio State win

Indiana actually has the best chance at reaching the Big Ten championship. It needs to either beat Purdue — winless in conference play and 2-9 overall — or hope for Ohio State to win. If Ohio State wins and Indiana loses, the Hoosiers would still get in due to holding a head-to-head tiebreaker over Oregon, whom the Hoosiers beat in Eugene earlier this year.

Michigan would be eliminated from contention with a loss to the Buckeyes.

Michigan

  • Easiest Big Ten championship path: Beat Ohio State AND Oregon loss

All things considered, Michigan still has a chance at the Big Ten championship game and CFP race.

Michigan needs to beat Ohio State and have Oregon lose to Washington. In this scenario, Michigan would be tied with Ohio State for second in the standings and would get in the championship game due to holding the head-to-head tiebreaker against the Buckeyes.

Michigan could also reach the Big Ten championship game if there's a four-way tie for first place, which would occur if it beats Ohio State, Oregon beats Washington and Indiana loses to Purdue. In that scenario, Oregon and Michigan would face off due to numerous tiebreakers.

There's also a scenario where Michigan could play Ohio State in the Big Ten championship if Michigan beats Ohio State, Indiana loses to Purdue and Washington beats Oregon. Indiana would miss out due to common opponent tiebreaker (losing to Purdue).

Oregon

  • Easiest Big Ten championship path: Ohio State loss AND Indiana loss

Oregon's only path to reaching the Big Ten championship is hoping for a four-way tie in a chaos scenario. The Ducks need Indiana to lose to Purdue and Ohio State to lose to Indiana.

Oregon would then get in alongside Michigan due to its conference opponents' winning percentage being better than Ohio State and Indiana's. Let's face it, the chances of this happening are incredibly slim.
