WESTERVILLE, Ohio (WKBN) – Cardinal Mooney fell to Wheelersburg 24-10 in the Division V State Semifinals at Westerville Central High School on Friday night.
Wheelersburg got on the scoreboard first when Cooper Heimbach drilled a 36-yard field goal to give the Pirates a 3-0 lead with 5:09 remaining in the first quarter.
AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementCardinal Mooney’s Ike Lake ripped off a 62-yard touchdown run, giving the Cardinals a 7-3 lead with 3:34 left in the first quarter.
The Pirates took a 10-7 lead on Stephen Hall’s 3-yard touchdown run with 4:22 left in the first half.
Wheelersburg’s Cooper Heimbach connected on a 20-yard field goal attempt, giving the Pirates a 13-7 lead with :31 remaining in the first half.
Wheelersburg’s Cooper Heimbach blasted a 47-yard field goal, increasing the Pirates lead to 16-7 with 3:54 left in the third quarter.
Jacob Gugliotta connected on a 26-yard field goal. Wheelersburg leads, 16-10 with 7:23 left in the fourth quarter

The Cardinals end the season with a record of 10-3.
With the win, Wheelersburg improves to 14-0 overall. The Pirates advance to face Liberty Center (14-0) in the Division V State Championship game on Saturday Dec. 6 at 7:30 p.m. Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton.
