For eight times in a row…yes, eight…Georgia has beaten Georgia Tech. Yes, this gets beaten into the ground a lot, but this is truly the golden age of Georgia football. Take all the championships away. The Bulldogs have once again swept all of their traditional rivals in the same season once again.

Here are ten thoughts from Friday’s win.

1. Well, Georgia Tech..hope it was worth it. Your hallowed institution of higher learning decided to sell its soul, not to mention sell out its own season ticket holders on the street corner to move a home game against a rival to a sterilized neutral site…all to lose once again with the building taken over by fans of the arch rival that lives rent free in your head. Moving a rivalry game like this anywhere off campus is a crime against humanity, and those who committed this affront to college football should be made to one day appear before a tribunal. Luckily, Georgia’s Athletic Association sees tradition over money and this game will be Between The Hedges next fall.

2. Call up Peter Venkman and his friends with the Ghostbusters, because Gunner Stockton was seeing ghosts on Friday night against Georgia Tech. Something just seemed off with Stockton, and the physical play of Tech’s secondary sure played a role. But Stockton, without question, had his worst game as a UGA starter and appeared a lot more tentative than usual. But If Georgia can still win with Stockton’s worst outing, it has to feel good that it can persevere through.

3. Sure, a dominant win would be nice, especially when it comes to an in-state rival. But when the state of this rivalry is in close quarters, you have reached the point where you have to assume nothing will come easy, especially when one of those teams had zero to lose. By all accounts, Georgia Tech’s season ended with last week’s loss to Pitt, and all of its eggs were rolled into one basket. You saw that on Friday, and you knew that the Yellow Jackets would empty the clip out to try any and everything to win. Knowing that this game meant everything to Tech and it’d stew over it for a year, that once again it came down to the final play? That makes wins like this so much sweeter.

4. Do we really have to play in the SEC Title Game? No, seriously. Even if things fall to get Georgia into it, can the Bulldogs forfeit? There is nothing to gain. And for goodness sakes, with a banged up running back and multiple offensive linemen dinged up if not worse, this team NEEDS some rest.

5. Two months ago, foolishly early hot takes from Atlanta sports media were predicting a Tech win over Georgia. How the heck would the Dawgs stopped the vaunted Tech offense that bulled over competition in the Almost Competitive Conference? Well…is holding this prolific offense out of the end zone for a game good? Just asking.

6. Speaking of defense…if you were wondering about the impact of CJ Allen, a guy that rushed to have surgery to play as quickly as possible, then Friday gave you a strong answer.

7. Georgia’s offense was not spectacular, but it somehow found a way to do enough to win on Friday…especially in the second half. There is no getting around it. Georgia got bludgeoned in a phone booth in the second half and was able to do enough to give Tech only a few seconds. That effort was just that on Friday…good enough to beat Georgia Tech, a team that for now two weeks in a row is pretty good defensively in the second half.

8. Thank goodness Georgia used up all but less than 20 seconds to go late in the game, because with all that Haynes King can do, you always have a fear that the game is never truly over. Thank goodness this is the final year of his eligibility.

9. A replay review that’s transparent. Take notes, SEC officials. It’s a heck of a lot better than what amounts to a zoom call to someone in his living room five states away.

10. With each coaching cycle that goes by, Georgia fans should be reminded of how fortunate they are. Take any school you want to think of…usually, the task of a coaching regime change to better things blows up quicker than things did this past week between Gainesville High School and the GHSA. Even “blue blood” brands have sought more for themselves only to meet disaster. Georgia rolled the dice in 2015, deciding that they could and should be more than “pretty good.” UGA got it right with Kirby Smart and the rest is history. As Georgia fans, we’re the lucky ones.

Go Dawgs!
