The Northman is finally arriving on Netflix, and it is happening soon. The third feature film from director Robert Eggers, The Northman chronicles the story of a Viking prince on a revenge quest following his father's murder. The movie was originally released to positive reviews in 2022.

Of the several notable things about The Northman, the action epic has a standout cast. This includes Alexander Skarsgård, Nicole Kidman, Ethan Hawke, Claes Bang, Anya Taylor-Joy, and Willem Dafoe. Some of these actors appeared in Eggers' previous movies or would go on to feature in Nosferatu.

Per What's on Netflix, The Northman is coming to Netflix imminently: The movie will be released on the streamer on Wednesday, December 3. Whether it will stay on the platform for an extended time or have a shorter run remains to be seen. The Northman is dropping on Netflix after previously being available on Peacock.

However, Netflix could be a good place for the Viking film, as things tend to gain major traction on this platform. The Northman's cold, wintry setting also makes now the perfect time of year for the movie to come around to United States audiences. It is certainly not a chipper holiday flock, but it nonetheless could get viewers in the right mood for the season.

Eggers himself has also gained more clout since The Northman was released. His adaptation of Nosferatu, which was released late last year, was popular among both audiences and critics. It even ended up being nominated for several Oscars, including Best Cinematography and Best Costume Design.

The Northman was not a huge success in theaters, so streaming is really its chance to make a name for itself. The movie grossed $75.8 million worldwide, which may not be an abysmal total, but it was a large-scale piece made on a $90 million budget. As such, Eggers and his team were trying to make a hit out of The Northman, and they fell short of this goal.

Still, The Northman has been a point of reverence in terms of reviews. The movie has a 90% Tomatometer on Rotten Tomatoes, garnering praise from the majority of critics. With this background, the increased status of Eggers, and the timing of the streaming release, The Northman has all the right potential to become a big streaming hit next week.
