Margot Robbie is often box office gold. The Barbie star has been in some of the biggest movies around. But one movie in particular was not met with the high praise of Robbie's otherwise sparkling career, and the Damien Chazelle film ended up becoming a box office flop. Since 2022, the movie has been met with praise from fans and a lot of second-chance viewings. You can make up your own mind about the film Babylon now that it is heading to Netflix on December 7!
The film stars Robbie as Nellie LaRoy, a young actress with dreams of making it in Hollywood. And when she teams up with Jack Conrad (Brad Pitt) and Manny Torres (Diego Calva), her dreams seem less like a pipe dream and more like their very real reality. But with a mix of a very loud score and a very long runtime, most audiences weren't as moved by the power of movie-making as they were with Robbie's previous work in Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as Sharon Tate.
But Babylon did find a very devoted and beloved audience with people still preaching the film's relevance. Manny is the lead of the film, with both Jack and Nellie serving their own journey through Hollywood and the filmmaking process. And for all of Babylon's very long sequences, it does have an ending that will have you remembering why you love movies. But you can make that decision for yourself when it arrives on Netflix next month. Even if others didn't really love it when it came out in cinemas.
Not Every Margot Robbie Movie Can Be a 'Barbie' Success

Babylon had a lot of things working against it. The over three-hour movie came out shortly after movie theaters returned during the COVID-19 pandemic and wasn't really what fans wanted to spend time watching in theaters. Especially with its Christmas 2022 release. But Robbie went on to prove that she is box office gold with the success of Barbie a few months later. Robbie has the ability to play a range of characters, and while Nellie and Barbie are very different from each other, they are two fashion icons that people love to still dress up as for Halloween, and that's saying something about Robbie's staying power and, by extension, Babylon.
You can experience the magic of movies with Babylon on Netflix starting December 7.
