Toy Story is dominating streaming right now in the way only such a genre-defining franchise can. Kicking off in 1995, the first Toy Story movie was the beginning of Pixar and started the industry's transition into computer-generated 3D images as its preference for animation. Toy Story now comprises four movies to date, with a fifth entry coming out on June 19, 2026.

30 years later, Toy Story has never had a bad movie, with every outing being critically acclaimed and garnering significant awards. They are very easy to return to, for a dose of nostalgia or just to find something new to appreciate about Pixar's original work. The older Pixar movies are still the best, including Toy Story 2 commonly being regarded as the best of the franchise.

Right now, the first three Toy Story movies are all in the Top 10 Movies on Disney+, according to FlixPatrol. Today, November 27, Toy Story is at No. 5 in the world, Toy Story 3 is at No. 8, and Toy Story 2 is at No. 10. Domestically, the first installment is at No. 3, the third at No. 6, and the second at No. 8, amid some other currently popular franchise installments.

Globally, Toy Story falls below Zootopia, Freakier Friday, and The Fantastic 4: First Steps. While Zootopia is at No. 1 with its sequel now in theaters, holiday classics like How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Home Alone, and The Polar Express are seeing a resurgence. People are also revisiting Avatar: The Way of Water before Avatar: Fire and Ash's theatrical release in December.

Interest in Toy Story is potentially picking up again with more news on Toy Story 5, which will see the return of the franchise's biggest stars. Toy Story 5's first teaser trailer debuted a couple of weeks ago, revealing that the next movie will, in part, be about Woody, Buzz, and co. facing the end of the age of analog toys, with their child being entertained by a new tablet.

Classics like Toy Story may also be among people's favorite comfort movies to watch during the holidays, though they aren't really about the holiday season. Many light-hearted and nostalgic movies have this appeal, though Toy Story as a franchise is still competing with more strictly Christmas movies on the streaming charts.

Toy Story 4 is notably absent from the lineup, with the performances by the most recent installment's new and hilarious cast members, such as Keanu Reeves and Key and Peele, not quite being on the same level as the classics. Still, Toy Story has proven time and again that it will always be a staple, and people may still need to watch the fourth again before the fifth is released.
