Dealing with cornerback injuries and overall depth concerns, fans of the Pittsburgh Steelers are left wondering: where is Asante Samuel Jr.? HC Mike Tomlin just offered an update on the talented practice squad defender.

During a recent press conference ahead of the Week 13 matchup against the Buffalo Bills, Tomlin discussed Samuel's potential call-up to the 53-man roster and when fans might be able to see the corner suit up on game day.

"We're always open to our practice squad guys elevating, particularly those with the résumé like Samuel's," Tomlin told reporters. "He's only been here a short period of time. He's been working his tail off to not only get in football conditioning, but learn what to do. And it's been a good endeavor thus far, but it's too early in the week for me to speculate in that regard."

One of the hottest free agents this offseason, Samuel underwent spinal-fusion surgery in April, delaying his signing until he was cleared for football activities in November.

After visiting with multiple NFL teams, Samuel decided to sign with Pittsburgh's practice squad — an ideal scenario that allows the talented corner to get back up to football speed while also learning the Steelers' defensive scheme.
