SoftBank completes $6.5bn acquisition of Ampere Computing Ampere specialises in developing energy-efficient semiconductors for AI computing · Verdict GlobalData Wed, November 26, 2025 at 5:10 PM GMT+8 2 min read In this article:

Japan-based SoftBank Group has finalised the previously announced Y973bn ($6.5bn) acquisition of Ampere Computing, a US-based semiconductor design company.

The transaction was executed through Silver Bands 6 (US) Corp., a SoftBank subsidiary, resulting in Ampere Computing becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of the Japanese group.

Ampere Computing is focused on designing semiconductors for high-performance, energy efficient AI computing based on the ARM compute platform.

From the date of acquisition, Ampere Computing’s financial performance and position will be consolidated into SoftBank’s financial statements.

SoftBank Group said that it is currently evaluating the effect of the acquisition on its consolidated financial results and indicated it would disclose any necessary updates should further matters arise.

The deal follows an agreement reached between SoftBank and certain equity holders of Ampere Computing in March 2025.

Under the agreement, Ampere Computing will continue operating under its existing name as part of SoftBank.

Ampere Computing was previously owned by Carlyle, Oracle, and Arm’s affiliate, Arm Technology Investment, which held stakes of 59.65%, 32.27%, and 8.08%, respectively. SoftBank is also the majority shareholder of Arm.

Recently, SoftBank finalised the sale of its entire stake in US tech giant Nvidia, generating $5.83bn from the deal.

According to the Japanese group’s financial statements dated 30 September 2025, these shares had previously been listed as Y357.8bn under current financial assets and Y534bn as investment securities.

In October 2025, SoftBank agreed to acquire the robotics division of Switzerland-based technology company ABB for an enterprise value of $5.4bn.

This acquisition is expected to strengthen SoftBank’s AI robotics initiatives by integrating ABB’s expertise with its existing investments, accelerating innovation and advancing progress toward artificial superintelligence.
