Warning: Spoilers Ahead for the Solo Leveling and Solo Leveling: Ragnarok Manhwa!
While Sung Jinwoo's gimmick as an increasingly overpowered protagonist in Solo Leveling makes it challenging to create truly imposing enemies, the series has steadily introduced greater and more exciting villains to conquer. For anime fans, this is surely an enticing premise, especially after the showstopper that was season 2's offerings. But Solo Leveling's toughest villains have yet to appear.
The villains, whether Magic Beasts, Monarchs, or other Hunters, help provide benchmarks for each new level Jinwoo reaches. Their actions and abilities have ranged from relative nuisances to existential threats to humanity. But the strongest monster in Solo Leveling is a fascinating discussion, posing the question of just how powerful the newest adversaries in Solo Leveling: Ragnarok are.
Who Is the Strongest Monster So Far in Solo Leveling's Anime?
Jinwoo's Shadow army at the end of Solo Leveling season 2.
For anime fans curious about what enemies were the most imposing, the Ant King aka Beru, featured in the climactic Jeju Island Arc of season 2, is Solo Leveling's strongest monster Jinwoo has defeated so far. In terms of strongest monster or entity Jinwoo has yet to defeat, the God Statue from the Double Dungeon still stands undefeated, for now.
While Magic Beasts and others resurrected by Jinwoo, such as Beru and Igris, gained access to new levels of power under his banner, they hardly qualify in the same traditional sense as monsters. They are no longer villains, but servants of his at this point. But as Solo Leveling season 2 teases, multiple key villains will soon rise.
This includes the appearances of Beast Monarch Rakan and Frost Monarch, who will soon also cross paths with Jinwoo, at the end of Solo Leveling season 2. Should the series go into the third season, or even perhaps a Solo Leveling movie, there will certainly be more worthy opponents for the Shadow Monarch.
Solo Leveling's Most Powerful Villains Across Multiple Fronts
Jinwoo's opponents in the original Solo Leveling are striking, but his truest nemesis, not only in terms of power, but also necessitating the most work in defeating him, is Antares. Antares, the Monarch of Destruction, was such a deadly final villain for Solo Leveling that Jinwoo voluntarily entered a time loop to defeat him definitively while minimalizing casualties.
There is simply no other Solo Leveling villain whose power has pushed Jinwoo this far. In terms of non-Monarch threats, The Architect will feature as the next imposing nemesis with power and an arsenal strong enough to rival or exceed Beru's. Beyond even that are the underexposed Titans, said to be as strong as the Monarchs.
Other powerful Shadows will join Jinwoo, including Bellion, would soon outdo even his best servants, with Bellion being his strongest. The dragon Kamish would have also been an exceptional addition, had his resurrected body not dissolved completely, and was a horrifying calamitous threat to the world before.
While other antagonistic forces have come and gone, with Thomas Andre being an incredibly powerful human Hunter to clash with Jinwoo, these are not truly villains, and still fall short of Antares. The only faction to outdo the Monarch of Destruction's power are the Itarim, a race of eldritch primordial gods related to the Absolute Being from Solo Leveling: Ragnarok.
So long as there's conflict in Solo Leveling, the issue of power-scaling will likely continue to grow should more follow-up stories. This is the case for many predecessors in the manhwa scene, as well as famous anime like Dragon Ball's wildly powerful rogues' gallery. Should Chugong truly create a sequel, it'll be interesting what powerful new villains will emerge next.
