Gemini was Google's answer to OpenAI's ChatGPT, but the former failed to generate the same level of euphoria as the latter did. A couple of years have passed since then, and Gemini is now better at everything than it was during the launch. It also features some unique and fun features that its rivals can't quite match.
While the list of best Gemini features may vary, the Nano Banana (Gemini 2.5 Flash Image) model is hard to ignore and is certainly one of the most fun features to try. Nano Banana makes image generation and editing super fun, and you can now also use it on Google Photos. But beyond the fun part, Gemini could soon get a seriously handy tool that will save you time when working with AI images.

As things stand right now, after generating an image, you can export it directly to your device if you're satisfied with the output. If you don't like what you get, you can write another prompt to make the necessary changes. While it works most of the time, there is always a chance of Gemini misinterpreting your prompt and editing your image incorrectly. Now, Google is working on a solution that can partly address the issue.
As spotted by leaker @testingcatalog on X, Google is working on an image annotation tool for Gemini. It has only one goal: to allow users to draw or add text to generated images before downloading them on their devices. While you can do that using another prompt, the image annotation tool can place text and drawings with absolute precision, because you're in control.
Prompts aren't great at visual pinpointing, either. If you're a teacher, you will be able to quickly highlight an area in a diagram and provide notes or explanations. Currently, you need another editing app to do it after downloading the AI-generated image. If you edit those images regularly this way, you'll be able to save a lot of time using Gemini's annotation tool.
The leaker hasn't provided details as to when the annotation tool will be available in Gemini. It's also worth noting that the leak doesn't guarantee the arrival of the annotation on Gemini, because Google has a history of canceling things midway. We hope that doesn't happen with the annotation tool.
