VfL Wolfsburg have confirmed reports of a serious thigh injury suffered by Danish striker Jonas Wind. The Bundesliga outfit – while offering up little in terms of details – revealed on Wednesday that the 26-year-old has undergone surgery and will remain out indefinitely. In all likelihood, Wind will miss the duration of the 2025 calendar year.

Wolfsburg – plagued by administrative problems as well at the moment – will somehow have to find a means of acquiring additional attacking assistance in the January transfer window. The local Wolfsburger Allgemeine Zeitung reports that the Lower Saxon Autostädter are intensifying their efforts to acquire West Ham’s Niclas Fullkrüg, though there hasn’t been much movement yet.

Füllkrug was initially linked with both Wolfsburg and Augsburg, but the Bavarian Swabian Fuggerstädter have reportedly recently dropped their interest in the 32-year-old. The WAZ reports that the German Wolves are considering a variety of options, including a loan and a split transfer fee for the German international.

Wolfsburg’s attempts to negotiate with West Ham are obviously hindered by the fact that the club doesn’t currently have a sporting director. If negotiations to acquire Füllkrug prove too problematic, Germany’s green company team could also potentially revive talks with Norwich City over a potential acquisition of American striker Josh Sargent.

Wolfsburg came close to procuring Sargent this past summer until talks collapsed over the transfer fee.
